Lightband Wines - Nelson, NZ

Owner Simon Prattley produces premium quality grapes on his Mount Arthur Vineyard located in Brightwater, Nelson. The area with its free draining gravel based alluvial soils and sunny climate has proven its capability of providing grapes of excellent quality.

The vineyard was planted in 2000 to Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and more recently expanded to include Pinot Gris. The wines have all the hallmarks of their origin; the whites are aromatic, flinty, minerally with a lovely fine acid backbone. The Pinot Noir shows warmth, plum and cherry characteristics with a velvety tannin structure.

Who was Mr Lightband?

The pioneering spirit of Mr George Lightband who came to Nelson in the 1840's and later sparked New Zealand's first gold rush is celebrated in the new labelling. His adventurous career as a brewer, grape grower, orchardist, leather tanner, businessman and supporter of the Maori people are a reflection of his contribution to the Brightwater area.
